pre-federation trek timeline

1937 - Several humans are secretly abducted by aliens and brought to the Delta Quadrant, including long-lost pilot Amelia Earhart.

1947 - A Ferengi ship from the 24th century crashlands on Earth. While kept secret, the wreckage of the ship is studied and will result in the development of impulse engines in the early 21st century.

1957 - Sputnik 1 is orbited by the Soviet Union, marking the beginning of Earth's Space Age. Observing the launch are three Vulcans, who are later stranded on Earth.

1964 - The Pierin home system is conquered, when the Kzinti trace backward the course of a scientific vessel.

1967 - Captain Braxton's 29th-century timeship, Aeon, crashlands on Earth.

1969 - Neil Armstrong becomes the first recorded human to walk on Earth's moon, proclaiming the historic Apollo 11 flight to be "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Dr. Henry Starling forms Chronowerx.

1972 - Apollo 20, the last of the early Moon missions, discovers the first of the Slaver stasis boxes. Its existence is kept secret by the U.S. government. It contains a flying belt, which will be the key to Earth's development of gravitic technology by the late 1980s.

1976 - NASA unveils its first reusable orbiting craft, or shuttle, named Enterprise OV-101. The Viking probes reach Mars. The Vulcans begin to abandon their Martian colony, from which they had been observing Earth.

1979 - Voyager 6 is launched. It will later fall into wormhole.

1983 - An international consortium begins building the first Moon base.

1986 - A Klingon bird of prey piloted by Kirk and his crew lands in old San Francisco to take two humpback whales back to the future. Transparent aluminum is discovered.

1987 - The first manned mission to Mars arrives at the Red Planet. The crew discover Martian wells and the mummified remains of a Martian.

1990 - A terrestrial planet is confirmed orbiting Alpha Centauri.

1993 - The Eugenics Wars are begun by the genetically engineered "supermen."

1996 - At the end of the Eugenics Wars, Khan Noonien Singh escapes Earth in a stolen DY-100 "sleeper" vessel, the S.S. Botany Bay. Dr. Stavos Keniclius, Earth's first cloned human, is banned from the community.

2000 - The first "United Earth" movement begins with a rededication of the United Nations. Historians refer to the organization from this time forward as the "New" United Nations.

2002 - Jackson Roykirk launches the Nomad space probe. The world's first self-sustaining civic environment, Millennium Gate, which became the model for the first habitat on Mars, is completed in Portage Creek, Indiana.

2010 - The first "sleeper" colony ships begin leaving for Alpha Centauri. In years to come, more colony ships will be launched for Sirius, Epsilon Indi, Tau Ceti, and Procyon.

2015 - A massive economic depression sets in on Earth.

2017 - The Cetacean Rights Act bans all whaling and grants the legal protections of full human equivalence to sentient cetaceans.

2018 - Homesteaders begin colonizing the Asteroid Belt.

2020 - The Earth-Saturn Probe reports further evidence of alien visitation.

2024 - The Bell Riots take place. The reunification of Ireland is brought about by the use of violence as a tool for political reform. By this time, Earth's Mars bases have been abandoned due to lack of funding and ruthless attacks by the Martians.

2025 - A research base is established on Ganymede.

2026 - World War III starts on Earth.  Building on the tensions of the earlier Eugenics Wars, the issues of genetic manipulation and human genone enhancement work as one of the driving forces in the conflict. Kicking off the war, Colonel Phillip Green's terrorist attacks begin.

2032 - Zefram Cochrane is born on Earth. The Ares IV vanishes over Mars.

2037 - S.S. Charybdis is launched, the third attempt to explore beyond the solar system. It will be mysteriously lost.

2039 - The Lunar Council declares itself independent from any Earth nation.

2040 - Television becomes obsolete.

2043-2047 - The bloody Mind Control Revolts take place.

2046 - The construction of Confinement Asteroid begins.

2047 - The Los Angeles area is submerged under 200 meters of water following the Hermosa Quake. The region becomes the largest coral reef on the planet.

2049 - Zefram Cochrane begins studying physics at MIT.

2052 - Following a successful warp experiment using an unmanned probe, Cochrane relocates to Bozeman, Montana.

2053 - World War III is finally over, resulting in the deaths of nearly 2 billion humans and 600 million in the aftermath. Colonel Green is thought to be dead, erroneously.

2053-2063 - In "the Dark Decade" following the end of the war, Earth descends into chaos as the surviving nations fall apart and humanity begins mass attrocities against itself.

2054-2055 - The First Earth-Kzin War is fought. The Kzinti, race of felinoid warriors, attack Earth outposts in the solar system. At first it is widely believed that Khan is responsible for the attacks.

2055 - Back from the dead, Colonel Green makes a speech about how humanity must "reject the impure." By the "impure" he means the people suffering from radiation poisoning in the nuclear fallout following World War III.

2059-2061 - In the Second Earth-Kzin War, the Kzinti manage to conquer Wunderland (Alpha Centauri VII). Attacks on the solar system are fended off, but Earth is not aware of how the Alpha Centauri colony is faring.

2063 - Zefram Cochrane launches the first manned warp ship, the Phoenix. Later in the evening, first contact with the Vulcans is made. Months later, the United Earth Space Probe Agency is established.

2063-2065 - The Third Earth-Kzin War is fought. Now armed with converted warp-drive vessels, the humans are able to drive back the Kzinti in their STL warships. The Vulcans are able to lend some technical and strategic assistance with the Kzinti. The "ratcats" are kicked out of Wunderland. Several Kzin slave species are released from bondage, including the Kdatlyno and the Pierin.

2065 - The S.S. Valiant is launched on a mission of exploration. The expedition is lost and is eventually swept out of the galaxy.

2067 - The unmanned interstellar warp probe Friendship One is launched.

2068-2070 - The Fourth Earth-Kzin War ends with the Treaty of Sirius, which limits the Kzinti to police ships and dismantles their empire. With the help of the Vulcans, Earth is becoming an important power in its local area of space.

2069 - S.S. Conestoga, the first warp-capable colony ship, is launched. Nine years later, it will found an Earth colony on a nearby planet named Terra Nova.

2079 - The Optimum Movement is at its strongest on Earth, with the United States, Britain, and Australia now under its sway. The UN is no longer in existence.

2080 - An ice-asteroid named Mahmet falls on Mars, killing the remaining Martians and inadvertently beginning the terraforming process.

2082 - The Optimum is overthrown in Britain, signaling the end of the Movement.

2088 - T'Pol is born on Vulcan.

2090 - Zefram Cochrane launches Bonaventure, a more advanced manned warp ship. He later relocates to the Alpha Centauri system to continue his experiments.

2094 - The Earth-Vega War results in the fall of the Vegan Tyranny.

2098 - Arik Soong is born.

2101 - The European Hegemony is founded, the first stirrings of world government after WWIII.

2103 - With no more Martians to slaughter colonists, Earth recolonizes Mars in earnest.

2109 - The Serpent Swarm in the Alpha Centauri system is colonized by Belters.

2111 - Jonathan Archer is born in upstate New York on Earth.

2119 - After participating in the dedication of the Warp Five Complex, Zefram Cochrane disappears mysteriously.

2123 - S.S. Mariposa is launched by the European Hegemony.

2130 - The United Earth is formed by the European Hegemony and the United States of America. In years to come, the other nation-states of Earth will join the new global alliance.

2134 - Earth Starfleet is founded. Dr. Arik Soong steals genetically engineered embryos from storage aboard Cold Station-12.

2139 - The transporter is invented by Emory Erickson.

2142 - The Warp 2 barrier is broken by Commander Robinson in NX-Alpha and Warp 2.5 is achieved by Commander Archer in NX-Beta.

2143 - The Romulans begin piratical attacks on Earth shipping and outposts, though humans don't yet know who is responsible.

2145 - The Warp 3 barrier is broken by Commander Duvall in NX-Delta.

2150 - The United Earth becomes Earth's official world government.

2151 - Enterprise (NX-01) is launched, the first Earth starship capable of Warp 5. First contact occurs with the Klingon Empire, the Andorian Star Empire, and the Rigelian Trade Commission, as well as many other minor powers.

2153-2154 - Earth is embroiled in the Xindi conflict.

2154 - In the Babel Crisis, the forces of Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar Prime combine for the first time to defeat a Romulan incursion. The Klingons recover human Augment DNA from the wreckage of a ship that Augments stole; they combine the DNA with Klingon DNA to create genetically enhanced Klingons.

2155 - The United Earth and its allies form the Coalition of Planets; however, the Coalition will collapse in only one year.

2157-2160 - The Earth-Romulan War is fought between United Earth and the Romulan Star Empire. The war ends in a humiliating defeat for the Romulans at the Battle of Cheron. The Romulan Neutral Zone is established by the Treaty of Peace. Earth begins a period of ascendancy in galactic affairs, while the Romulans enter a period of isolationism.

2161 - The United Federation of Planets is founded by Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar Prime. The Earth Starfleet is reorganized as the Federation's defense and exploration agency.
